What to do next
While you have the checklist open
  • 01
Read Phase 1 first. If something has just happened, the first two hours are the most critical. The checklist covers the five steps you should take before anything else — including whether you need to notify WorkSafe.
  • 02
Check the "Where most employers get it wrong" section on page 3. These five patterns are the ones that turn a manageable incident into a compliance problem. If any of them feel familiar, that's the gap worth closing.
  • 03
If plant or equipment was involved — read the Plant and Equipment Compliance Code page. From 1 July 2024, additional notification obligations apply to plant incidents.
  • 04
If you're not confident the investigation would hold up at reinspectionbook a free 15-minute discussion. We can review what you have and tell you where the gaps are. No obligation.
